Why is it important to promote my site?
In order for your Web site to be successful, you need to promote it. After all, what
good is your site if nobody ever goes to it? There are many ways to promote your
site (banner ads, word-of-mouth, print ads, etc.) but one of the most important is
registering your site in the various Internet search engines.
How do I register my site with search engines?
There are two main ways to register your site with search engines.
You can do it yourself. Click on the following links to fill out these popular
search engines' submit URL pages. (On search engines, including the ones not mentioned, you will usually find a link to "Submit URL" at the bottom of their
home page). The following sites will have your site added to their directory between 48 hours to 8 weeks, as some search engines review submitted URLs
before they are added.
Since sites like MetaCrawler and Ask Jeeves pull their search results from other
search engines, you need to register your site with the sites listed above to appear in the results of sites like MetaCrawler and Ask
Jeeves.
Or, you can pay a small fee to have a company handle registering your site
with search engines for you. The advantages to choosing this option are that
it can save you time and also that many of these companies will also monitor your position within the search engines (to make sure you rank among the top)
giving you a greater number of hits to your site.
How do I get involved with banner exchanges?
There are many different sites on the web where you can participate in banner
exchanges. A few of the more popular ones are:
Be Free
Digital Women
LinkShare
LookSmart Clicks
MS bCentral
